UGS Husów

The Underground Gas Storage [UGS] Facility Husów is located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, in the commune of Markowa and the ‎Łańcut district. Geographically, it is situated within the Dynów Piedmont (Pogórze Dynowskie) and Rzeszów Foothills (Podgórze Rzeszowskie), each of them belonging to one of two large regions, i.e., respectively, the Central Beskidian Piedmont (Pogórze Środkowobeskidzkie) which makes part of the Carpathians, and Sandomierz Basin (Kotlina Sandomierska). Therefore, the southern part of the Husów region, which reaches out into the Carpathians, is elevated to around 380 m above the sea level, whereas the northern part descends to the around 250 m above the sea level.

Information about the storage facility

Key parameters of the storage reservoir:

Average effective thickness of reservoir rock 30,70 [m]
Average geophysical porosity of reservoir rock 19,70 [%]
Average geophysical permeability of reservoir rock 150,30 [mD]
Original static bottom-hole pressure in the reservoir horizon 12,19 [MPa]
Average depth of the reservoir horizon top 1275 [m]

The Husów high-methane natural gas deposit was discovered in 1975. The gas in place reserves were assessed to amount to over 2 billion m<3. The field went into production in 1975 and was producing until 1982 reaching the depletion rate of 79%. The natural gas reservoir is located in Miocene sandstones. In the basal part, the gas saturated zone is supported by edge/underlying formation water. The storage reservoir is sealed by shales both from the top and from the base part.
