CUGS Kosakowo

Cavern Underground Gas Storage [CUGS] Facility Kosakowo is located on the Baltic coast in the Pomorskie Voivodeship, the Puck district, the commune of Kosakowo. It is situated within the Pobrzeże Kaszubskie area belonging to the western part of Pobrzeże Gdańskie.

10 storage caverns were built at KPMG Kosakowo.  They were formed within a Permian halite deposit known as Mechelinki situated in the western part of the Peribaltic Syneclise. The caverns are leached within the oldest halite bed marked by a relatively constant thickness of 170-200 m, burred at the minimum depth of approx. 970 m BGL. The basement of the halite bed is composed of Lower Palaeozoic sediments whereas the overburden consist of Mesozoic and Cenozoic erathem deposits.
